Why Did the Zcash Blockchain Outage Occur?
The problem arose shortly after a series of emergency updates. Developers had previously conducted an urgent soft fork to fix a critical vulnerability in the Orchard private pool. Additional patches were then released to fix consensus errors that could theoretically lead to a chain split.
The Zcash team has not yet officially confirmed a direct link between the current outage and the recent updates. However, the fact that the network stopped immediately after the patches has raised questions in the community.
Important Note: Some blockchain explorers showed incorrect data because they were connected to nodes that had not yet updated their software. After some nodes updated, the situation stabilized.
How Did the Crypto Market React to the Zcash Outage?
Despite the technical issue, the ZEC▼$415.42 token showed resilience, rising 6% over the past week, significantly outperforming the broader market. Over the past month, ZEC has gained approximately 42%.
At the time of publication, ZEC trades at approximately $597. Despite the negative news and bitcoin’s (BTC) sharp price drop, the cryptocurrency has risen nearly 6% over the past 24 hours.

This is not the first Zcash outage in 2026. The network previously faced problems after updates, highlighting the importance of thorough testing even when fixing critical vulnerabilities.
