Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin has decided to take a break from writing his famous technical essays. He has shifted his focus to creating a science fiction novel dedicated to experiments with decentralized governance and DAOs.

First Chapters Already Available
The first two chapters of the new work have already been published on Buterin’s personal website. He made the announcement on the Farcaster social network under the account vitalik.eth, noting that he wants to try his hand at the fiction genre.
At the center of the novel are questions of decentralized system governance: voting mechanisms, public goods funding, combating power concentration, and low participant engagement. Buterin transports these themes into a fictional universe where he can freely test ideas without risk to the real Ethereum network.
Why Science Fiction?
According to Buterin, the novel format allows him to vividly demonstrate the pros and cons of various governance models, including quadratic voting and pluralistic mechanisms, through stories of fictional societies and crisis situations. This is particularly relevant given the current problems facing many DAOs: low voter turnout, treasury risks, and plutocracy.

Recently, Buterin also stated that he is gradually distancing himself from direct influence on the Ethereum Foundation, calling it just one of many nodes in the ecosystem.
