The Solana Foundation is actively developing the network as key infrastructure for the “agentic internet.” This model shifts economic activity to AI agents instead of humans.
The network has already processed approximately 15 million blockchain payments initiated by AI agents. Stablecoins have become the primary tool for paying for computing resources and related services.

Solana Foundation Head of Product Vibhu Norby stated that AI represents a platform shift affecting all industries, including crypto. He noted that Solana’s programmable payment architecture makes the network attractive for machine-to-machine interactions.

Solana’s AI Agent Strategy
Norby noted that agentic payments could transform internet monetization. They enable transactions for fractions of a cent on a pay-per-use basis. Traditional payment systems cannot support this model.
Agents select optimal solutions without emotional attachment to specific blockchains. Norby said Solana frequently ranks among leaders in speed and cost.

The Foundation is also preparing to launch the X402 payment gateway. This plug-and-play solution will allow merchants to accept stablecoins without complex technical integration. The gateway focuses on automated payments that agents will execute independently.
Market Outlook
Norby forecasts that 95 to 99 percent of all on-chain transactions will be initiated by AI agents and large language models (LLMs) in the coming years.
Solana developers are creating tools designed for agents. These include machine-readable skill files and AI-oriented APIs.
This approach reinforces the network’s focus on high throughput and low fees. Solana already holds a significant share of agentic payment protocols such as X402.
Further development will depend on business adoption of these tools and the growth of autonomous AI systems in everyday economic activity.
