Tether is preparing to push beyond stablecoins with a new generation of lightweight AI applications aimed primarily at users in developing markets.

CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company now reaches more than 650 million users worldwide and wants to use that distribution network to deliver practical AI tools across areas such as health, finance, and sports.

Tether Wants AI to Run on Regular Phones
Ardoino argues that smartphones are already widespread even in poorer countries, creating an opportunity to distribute smaller AI models without requiring large data centers for every interaction.
The company’s strongest existing footprint is in emerging economies, particularly regions such as Africa and South America, where USDT▼$0.9996 is frequently used as an alternative to unstable local currencies and as a way to access U.S. dollars.
Tether now wants to extend that model beyond finance.
As proposed, Tether AI apps could provide everyday services in fields including health, personal finance, and sports. Ardoino has not yet disclosed specific products, pricing, a business model, or a launch date.
The strategy fits Tether’s broader attempt to redefine itself as more than a crypto company.
Ardoino said the company increasingly views itself as both a digital-dollar and digital-gold business, while expanding into technology infrastructure ranging from decentralized communications to energy and artificial intelligence.
Tether Has Already Been Building AI Infrastructure
The new Tether AI apps would not mark the company’s first move into AI.
Earlier this year, the company launched a developer-grants program supporting local-first AI and payment infrastructure. The initiative is designed around software that can operate on users’ own devices rather than depending entirely on centralized cloud services.
That approach could be particularly useful in developing economies, where connectivity and computing infrastructure can be inconsistent.

Tether’s enormous existing user base gives it an unusual advantage. Rather than building an audience for AI products from scratch, the company could potentially introduce them to hundreds of millions of people already familiar with USDT.
Still, the initiative remains at an early stage. There are no confirmed launch dates, prices, or details about how Tether will monetize the applications.
